Saturday football
**FRIDAY**

SOUTHAMPTON vs ASTON VILLA (2000)
The Saints have pulled their socks up of late and now find themselves above today’s opponents, whose socks are at ankle level. Four defeats on the trot isn’t a great way to go into this game and the Saints will look to be as uncharitable as they can tonight. Home win.

**SATURDAY**

MANCHESTER UNITED vs MANCHESTER CITY (1230)
The day’s biggie, if you exclude the Brentford game. Who’d be in OGS’s shoes? But he’s been here before and emerged. City will want to win to keep them in the title race. United will be playing for their manager’s future. What’s the greater motivation? Away win.

BRENTFORD vs NORWICH CITY (1500)
Brentford have amassed 12 points, five more than Burnley who occupy the place immediately below the dotted line. Despite their early season success, survival must remain the target for the Bees. Survival, you feel, is beyond Norwich’s capacity and desire. A free three points on offer for the hosts. They just have to take them. Home win.

CHELSEA vs BURNLEY (1500)
A free hit for Burnley, who are expected to lose. Which they will. But wouldn’t it be fun if they pulled off a surprise win? Which they won’t. Home win.

CRYSTAL PALACE vs WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS (1500)
Two sides on the up. Despite expectations, Palace have shown bottle and intent in some recent performances. They’ll need both if they’re to get past high-flying Wolves, who don’t seem to be missing Nuno. Home win.

BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION vs NEWCASTLE UNITED (1730)
Brighton have dropped a few places of late, but manager Potter is still spoken about as a possible England boss. He’ll be glad to be rid of that kind of talk as all eyes will be on Newcastle who may arrive with a new boss of their own. Whoever they appoint has one heck of a job on his hands. Home win.

**SUNDAY**

ARSENAL vs WATFORD (1400)
El hombre del glossy hair versus il signore di tinker. Possibly the last thing Mikel Arteta’s resurgent Gunners would want is to come up against a team capable as much of sublimity as of fan-castrating desperation. How does anyone prepare for that? Still, Arsenal are at home and seem to have got their confidence back. They should see off the Hornets comfortably. Home win.

EVERTON vs TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR (1400)
Another battle of Spanish and Italian bosses, and probably not one that Rafa would want. His Everton side have slipped down the table in recent games. Today’s visitors have done likewise, but have the established benefit of new manager bounce. And Harry Kane has a point to prove. Or should have. Away win.

LEEDS UNITED vs LEICESTER CITY (1400)
Bielsa just hasn’t got his side going yet this season, although they’re only three points from mid-table. Which is where the Foxes sit. They’ll be expecting to climb a place or two at the final whistle. Away win.

WEST HAM UNITED vs LIVERPOOL (1630)
The last Premier League fixture before another international break and always one to look forward to. Last time out, Brighton showed that the Reds’ defence is not invincible as the sides shared four goals at Anfield. With Brentford also having put three past them a few weeks ago, Antonio, Bowen, Fornals et al will hope to do likewise. The trouble is that they’ve got Salah et al, who will be in no mood to show mercy to our back line or to Fabianski. They’ll have to be at their sharpest and best this afternoon. Liverpool will be the strongest side we’ve met this season and have been scoring at will in their recent games, while we’ve been winning by the solitary goal, apart from last week. This should be a really competitive encounter and if we can stop them scoring early there’s no reason the fans can’t emerge from it with their psyches intact. Draw.

2 games won in 8, 9 goals all season and spurs still manage to be 9th. How shot are the rest of the bottom half with stats like that.

Re: Saturday football
According to the BBC stats Spurs haven't had a shot on target again in the first half today. That's got to be 3 hours of Premier League football without troubling the keeper 🤣🤣🤣
